The Poulton & Wyre Railway Society was formed in 2006 to reopen the section to Fleetwood. Most of the track is still in place and the Poulton & Wyre Railway Trust are working with Wyre Council and Network Rail to ensure the line has a future. It is hoped that heritage trains will soon be operating over an initial short section and plans to develop the line as a rail plant testing facility have already been developed.

In the meantime Network Rail have issued a clearance licence to allow Society volunteers access to the entire line in order to clear vegetation and repair boundary fencing.
