The 1955 Fowler Shunter, #4210108 has been safely moved to secure storage. The extraction and removal was carried out on Saturday 1st May 2010 by Paul Fox of Fox Brothers North West Ltd. Two 50 ton all terrain Faun mobile cranes undertook the lift, effortlessly and without event. Lancashire County Developments (Property) Ltd donated the Locomotive to the Poulton & Wyre Railway Society and their dedicated volunteer base. Alex Herschell, Society Chairman said “We are very excited that we have taken ownership of this piece of local history, the loco worked for many years at the Leyland Motor works in Preston. Unfortunately since the plants closure the loco has sat rusting away – our aim is to restore the unit to full working order and see it repainted in its original blue and yellow Leyland Motors livery” |
