At last night’s EGM (29/05/08) the members of the Poulton and Wyre Railway Society witnessed the signing of the Trust Deed Document by the first Trustees: Dennis Goy, Dennis Bleakley and Peter Allcock. Peter although not present at the meeting said earlier "last night marked an important milestone, the formation of a trust gives us a professional framework on which to build a successful railway" "there is still a long way to go in the discussions with Network Rail, however, we hope that the formation of the trust shows NR that we really do mean business”.

Another milestone, the Society members voted in the same meeting to ratify the society constitution, Society Chairman John Goy said “this is excellent news, since the society’s inauguration we have been operating against a draft”; “we now have a well considered administration which gives us a solid foundation to build on”. The officers of the PWRS sort professional advice from Preston based Community Futures who helped create a set of legal documents for the Society and the newly formed Trust. The two entities are committed to supporting each other in the united goal of returning rail services to Fleetwood.

Society member Rick Rossall was thanked during the meeting for taking up the position of Team Leader relative to the Thornton Station Project, and the members of the Society asked for a vote of thanks to be passed on to Fox Brothers, NPL Estates and the Hodgkinson Family for the help provided in the relocation of the recently donated L&Y carriage.

The PWRS have stumbled across an original Lancashire and Yorkshire railway carriage on farm land close to Thornton Station. The bogie-less carriage found on a farm owned by the Hodgkinson family is believed to be over 130 years old and is likely to have been used to carry passengers to and from Fleetwood, although for the last 90 years of its life the carriage has been stationary on the farm. Over this period it has been home to a convalescing railway worker, a local midwife, and chickens!

The 11th - 13th February 2008 saw a rail mounted vehicle arrive at Thornton for Cleveleys, this marked a very special day as it was the first time the rails had been used since the line closed to ICI freight in 1999. The use of the Road Rail Vehicle of type Komatsu 998 was provided by Shovlin Plant Hire, the company donated the hire cost, fuel and a skilled driver for the three days. And the Thornton Traders Association made a significant donation towards the cost of the low loader which delivered the RRV.
