On the 15th June 2009 ATOC published a report entitled "Connecting Communities" which cites a strong business cases for the re-building of 7 new Stations and the re-instatement of 35 former railway routes. All opportunities were evaluated, showing the business case in terms of an indicative benefit to cost ratio (BCR). Evaluation included the social costs and benefits of each scheme as well as earnings from fares, comparing them to the cost of operating the service, together with the capital cost of the reinstatement.

What do PWRS and TVR have in common? The answer is Thornton Station... David Smart of Automedon Sports Cars, Blackpool, was recently clearing out his workshop and came across a large number of 35mm photographs taken in and around Thornton Station in 1985. Dave contacted Wyre Borough Council in the hope that these may of use to the PWRS, WBC very kindly scanned them in and sent them to the PWRS web administrator.Image

In the next few weeks these will be uploaded to the PWRS website, a limited number of these will be available to the general public. The full collection can be accessed by PWRS members by logging in. However for those of you who cannot wait a sample can be seen above. In this image you can see Thornton Station Box - taken looking toward Station Road in 1985.

The PWRS would like to over a vote of thank to David Smart and Automedon for providing these photos to the Society.
