L & Y Carriage Identified

Good news! Our Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway carriage (see L & Y Carriage) has been identified as carriage number 210, built in 1890.

The build number has been found on the sliding vent over the door. This build number would no doubt have also been it's L & Y running number.

L & Y carriage build number.

The records show 82 (32'0" x 8'0") first class carriages were built between 1882 and 1894, with 47 still remaining in 1921.

The records also show in the L & Y build numbers known that 210 was built in 1890.

Catalog records.

The most up-to-date record of 6 wheel 4 compartment first class L & Y carriages shows there to be just two in existence; ours and the one owned by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Trust (normally on display at Oxenhope Station on the the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway).
