Heritage Railway Centre

Now that we have successfully achieved our aim to facilitate the re-opening of the Poulton-le-Fylde to Fleetwood railway line (see Plans To Reopen Line Move Forward), we have therefore had to reset our future aspirations and have initiated a new objective for the Poulton & Wyre Railway Society.

Our plan is now to develop, over time, a Heritage Railway Centre with offices, workshops and some form of test track located on or adjacent to the railway line.

It has been confirmed by Network Rail that there will be sufficient land within the existing railway corridor to accommodate our planned site requirements. It is also hoped that at some time in the future we may operate a heritage train service on the line.

Rolling Stock

The society have amassed a collection of historical railway locomotives, railway carriages, rolling stock and equipment over the last fifteen years, which the volunteers are in the process of restoring on a private site away from the railway line.

We will display them, loan or hire them so that they may be used, if practicable, and will make suitable arrangements for their continued preservation, as far as possible.

These include a 1890 Lancashire & Yorkshire Victorian railway carriage, a 1938 L.N.E.R. Gresley teak pigeon carriage, a 1955 Fowler diesel shunter and a 1960 two car Diesel Multiple Unit.

Details about these and the work carried out on them can be seen on our Rolling Stock news page.

Museum

We also have plans to establish and develop a permanent museum on the proposed new site in order to house a collection of railway artefacts and memorabilia and display them to the general public.
