Our Geismar EGO4 four seater motorised personnel trolley and trailer were purchased in 2018 from Network Rail surplus for £550 by auction.
The trolley was built in 2004 and was purchased as seen not running. It has since been restored to working condition.
It is used by PWRS to move volunteers, tools and materials along cleared stretches of the line.
Little is known at this point. It was purchased from the Network Rail Whitemoor Recycling Depot.
It is believed to have spent much of its life on South Central division, initially allocated to London Victoria NR Depot.
Although seemingly in use in 2011 (when seen at Balham), from at least February 2013, it was at East Croydon, clearly visible from the platforms, but seeing very little if any use.
The trolley and likely the trailer too, were based at Network Rail's East Croydon Maintenance Delivery Unit Depot from circa 2013 to 2018.
We have at least five Permaquip Type B trolleys which we used for our track clearance activities. The majority are now connected together to form a rolling platform for our L & Y Carriage restoration.
The Permaquip Type B is a manual propelled, stand-alone load bearing platform with fail-safe braking for use on-track.
One of the trolleys was obtained from Network Rail in the distant past and the below specification is believed to belong to it:
The remainder were obtained from various non-documented donors over several years.
Our thanks to Jonathan Flood, chair of The Rail Trolley Trust for clarification and help with much of the above information.
