Rotary Generators for Ukraine Appeal

With the conflict in Ukraine continuing and Russian targeting of energy production, the country is experiencing ongoing electricity power cuts at one of the coldest times of the year.

There is a desperate need for generators to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.

Cumbria Aid for Ukraine, based near Penrith, took a small lorry going out to Ukraine on the 8th of February with surplus generators from around the region, including from PWRS.

Ongoing Appeal

They also have a much larger lorry going out in mid-March and urgently would like more generators to fill this load.

If you have a spare generator (whether working or not) and live within Lancashire or Cumbria, please contact:

At your earliest opportunity.

Background

Last year it was brought to the attention of Cumbria Aid for Ukraine that there was considerable support in the Rotary District for providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine and they were able to fund an ambulance for Ukraine.

When the need for generators was raised, Appleby Rotary made an appeal to all Rotary clubs in the District to facilitate the collection of generators (whether working or not) and get them to Cumbria Aid for Ukraine by either of the above two dates.

PWRS Donation

As a result of this appeal, our Secretary, Peter Banks, made contact and was able to arrange for the donation and the collection of two of our small generators which were surplus, in need of repair and due to be scrapped.

The generators were collected by Bill Collinson and John Taylor on the morning of Saturday 31st January and we were pleased to be of help with this vital humanitarian quest and we hope that collectively we can alleviate some of the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict and the adverse weather conditions.
